One week in...

Aug 20, 2019

We made it through our first week of school.  The inevitable "we are using our brains again" melt downs seemed less than previous years, with the exception on Max's tears this morning, claiming school is "too long".

This year we hit the ground running.  Scarlett picked up an extra night of gymnastics, a mid week Bible study and a 30 minute piano lesson, Dominic picked up two soccer practices, and Max is just trying to get used to the idea that he isn't by my side.  As much as I miss my babies while they are away, it is refreshing to come together at the end of the day and be excited to spend a quality hour reading books, taking walks, and playing games.

And really this is the ideal time for our family, when routines haven't yet run their course, homework consists mostly of stacks of paper to be completed by the parent, lunches are homemade sandwiches and fresh fruit, packed the night before, the kids are still excited about putting on a uniform, we aren't pushing the clock trying to sleep in an extra 10 minutes, and I don't yet mind the 30 minute drive to the school in the car pool lane and the "who knows how long" traffic on the way to work.  Give it a couple weeks and we will be pulling our hair out to get through the door on time, lunches will be a lot less healthy and a lot more granola bars and fruit snacks, and homework will be a daily battle ground.  But for now, we are in our sweet spot and I am going to celebrate it.  So happy one week to our busy family of five.  Let's keep the good times rolling.
