Yo Gabba Gabba Live...
Nov 28, 2011
We made Scarlett's year by taking her to Yo Gabba Gabba Live with her cousins last Friday. I have never seen Scarlett process emotion and excitement the way she did when DJ Lance and his party loving pals hopped onto the stage and shot streamers into the audience. It took her a good 30 minutes to adjust to the loud music and flashing lights and get her dancey dance on...but when she did, toddler power took over and there was no stopping her from shaking her booty and raising the roof ALL NIGHT LONG.
Thank you Gabba crew for adding a little more joy into my toddlers life.

Best friends forever...
Myself and two girlfriends all had little girls within four months of each other. We often find ourselves in a bind and in need of a babysitter and it is a blessing to know that these two women are there for last minute help. This week both women found themselves in need and I offered to help by watching there little's for the day. Although babysitting three under two is a daunting task, it turned out to be perfect. These girls are three of the most different children you have ever met and although they have had there share of friendship battles, even at two years of age, they still squeal every time they see each other.
Here is to hoping that these girls can continue to grow together in friendship and in life.

Glow in the dark...

Have you seen this idea floating around on Pintrest? I saw glow bracelets at Michaels on sale for a dollar and couldn't resist buying them for some bath time fun.

Bangs...
Nov 18, 2011
Scarlett's constant hair in the face look was driving me crazy. So I cut her some bangs, she went from cute little baby girl to toddler that looks exactly like her mom in one swift chop. Unfortunately, she also inherited both Chris and my cowlicks and the hair cut only highlighted the lack of participation from the bang department. I apologized to Scarlett and told her that unfortunately she would hate her bangs for the rest of her life, but hopefully by her teenage years I would be able to teach her a few tricks to keep those buggers in line.
The rest of the week was spent chasing a squirmy Scarlett around the house trying to catch the few straggly strands of escaped bang or straightening out the ones I already cut. Who knew that cutting a toddlers bangs could turn into a full time job? I think I will leave all future hair cutting to the professionals.

Camping...again...
Nov 17, 2011
We went camping. Why we keep putting our selves through the inevitable baby is wide awake and ready to play ALL NIGHT LONG sleepless camp nights is beyond me.
I blame the fresh air, star studded sky, and adult time around the camp fire that keeps us coming back with our tails between our legs.

Lesson of the week fail...
Nov 16, 2011
Three weeks ago I was excited to incorporate a lesson of the week into our family. Unfortunately the excitement has worn off and life has reared its ugly head into all of my plans. I have only two days a week with Scarlett. Two days to fill her head with facts, poetry and music, cover her hands with glue, paint and glitter, and stuff her boca with sandwiches shaped like spiders and rainbow fruit kabobs. Two days, I am realizing, is not enough time to teach our little sponge how to fully comprehend and learn, to understand anything more than spiders have 8 legs and pumpkins are orange with seeds that taste good when you bake them.
So instead of forcing myself to force Scarlett to regurgitate songs and poems about our weekly lessons, I am going to chill myself out and take each day as it comes. Just because Scarlett can talk, walk, paint, sing and dance, doesn't mean she sit for 10 straight minutes and focus on the colors of the rainbow or read 15 books about spiders. My approach to home school is changing. I will continue to love on Scarlett and open her eyes to the unending world of crafts, but not get frustrated when she can't figure out how to apply a dot of glue and a piece of tissue paper to a cut out picture of a pumpkin. I will continue to sing and dance to the colors of the rainbow and not get sad when she doesn't want to sing along. I will continue to read her books and encourage her to learn the letters of the alphabet, but not be discouraged when she chooses to read Brown Bear, Brown Bear for the tenth time in a row instead the thrilling book about how flowers grow or the informative book about spiders. And I will continue to print out colorful lesson filled pieces of paper for my own organizational peace and not put her in a time out when she does this to my lesson board.
I think she showed me exactly how she was feeling about "lesson of the week" in our house. Maybe we will give "lessons of the week" another year to grow...
