Scarlett says...

Scarlett singing to Taylor Swift 22 (thanks Aunt Suzy)

Scarlett:  "I dont know about you, but I'm feeling sweaty too..."

Chris and I might have laughed for 5 straight minutes at that one.

God is good...

Jul 18, 2014

I have had few moments in my life in which I allowed myself to see God's hand at work. Most of the time it takes me years of reflection to see how His will was accomplished, years chasing fading memories of right and wrong and repeatedly reciting a prayer for guidance and peace.  In contrast are the moments in my life in which I had to make a split second decision, just enough time for prayer but very little time for reflection.  One was my choice to study abroad in college, this prayerful but last minute decision put me two doors down from my future husband, and the second has been this decision to move to Seattle.  Both were scary, and both led me closer to the heart of God.

Chris and I started this move out of curiosity for adventure and an internal struggle for a more restful life.  These desires have been blessed over and over again, every choice we make toward Seattle the more peace we feel about the decision.  We have walked through each step with our arms in the air ready for failure, and God has not only opened the door, but lit it up with a neon sign that says "I have already prepared the way for you".   All of the stress we have felt about the timing of the move, of selling our home and buying another in a state we have spent less than one week in, has melted away as we get closer to the finality of this giant life change.

So now, after lots of prayer and 20 open doors later,  we are going to peacefully get lost in boxes and dream about our new Washington home!  Truly, God is good.

This our new house (God willing)!!! 4 moves in 7 years...well done Becher family, well done.

Los Padres Supper Club...

Jul 16, 2014

Approximately one year ago Chris and I were sitting down with some friends and fellow Los Padres Supper Club members talking about expired dinner ideas, themes that made it to the drawing table but never to dinner.   Ours retired themes were "food puns", "flowers" and "genealogy".  At the first mention of a merging a dish to include the combined history of our married guests, our friends looked awkwardly at each other and burst into laughter.  This was their theme.  Out of every theme that one couple could pick for a dinner...anything in the world, we had both picked family history.  The only reason that Chris and I never fully realized this themes potential was because we could never compromise on how we wanted it to be presented in a five course setting.  Regardless, for a year Chris and I have been holding the secret of the Henry's dinner close at hand and waiting patiently to see how they would execute it in a formal setting.

The Henry's chose to host on the fourth of July,  not only to celebrate a wonderful Marriage themed dinner but also to share their 5 year wedding anniversary with those whose friendships they love and cherish.  It was a magical night, full of good food, great toasts, a little soccer and lots of fireworks.

Adding an "s"...

Jul 10, 2014

Dominic is learning new words every day, constantly surprising us with his vocabulary and the little nuances of language he just happens to pick up.

Some of our favorites that guarantee to make us laugh are:
Me: Dominic do you want a piece of cheese?
Dominic: Sure
Not yes, or no, but sure...if you ask him a question the answer is usually "sure". Shrug your shoulders and roll your eyes and you could be 15 little boy.

If Dominic drops something, trips, breaks a toy, or looses a ball he typically mutters a tiny "shoot", which almost always sounds exactly like he is saying a much dirty version of the word.

But the best thing about Dominic's dictionary is everything ends in "s":
Me: Dominic did you poop?
Dominic: Yeps

or other added "s" words:
poops
sockies
baths
milkies
books (when referring to only one book)

It is the best...he spends most of his day copying every last word in every ones sentence.  I really love this stage of learning, watching him express himself with words instead high pitched yelps has eased the comfort level for all of our ear drums.

Embracing the summer...

Jul 9, 2014

Last Saturday we spent the entire day in the pool and it was perfect.  In all honesty I never thought I would hear myself admit that I not only enjoyed, but longed for more hours in the warm water of my parents pool.  I have a huge thing about water, specifically cold water..."huge" meaning, I typically hate it.  Yet, last weekend I was soaking up every minute.   I think part of it was the tropical paradise that my parents have created in their backyard, part was the warmth of the water, and part was the fun that I was having watching my kids find and soar on their pool legs.  It was so fun to be able to throw some floaties on Dominic and watch his legs kick under the water like a duckling searching for the bottom. We spent the entire day, water wrinkled, sun kissed and happy.

4th of July

Jul 8, 2014

Our 4th this year was extremely eventful.  We woke early, explained everything about the day to our kids, got in the car and didn't stop until 1 o'clock in the morning.

The day started with a birthday party for my sweet niece.

 photo 001_zps8335b2fc.jpg photo 004_zpsd76b57d5.jpg photo 010_zps690e38e9.jpg photo 008_zpsef04ae19.jpg photo 014_zps493402fc.jpg photo 017_zps5f602680.jpg

We are beyond blessed to have ALL of our family within a 15 mile radius from our home.  So when when our family celebrates a birthday, everyone is there.  Something that I am sure we will feel when my kids birthdays roll around this year and we are up North, fighting rain drops and gloomy skies.

It was a wonderful start to our Independence day.

The rest of the day was just as relaxing...I dropped the kids off at my parents and Chris went to a local bar with some friends to watch the World Cup.  The rest of the day we spent spoiled by our friends the Henry's, it was their turn to host our fancy pants super club and we enjoyed every minute of it.

More on that dinner to come...but you can bet we went in full 4th of July style!
